Тhe metal and electrical engineering industries are a complementary and cohesive technological part of the national economy, bearing great significance to the country's economic development. The products manufactured by the metal and electrical engineering industries are considered durable consumer goods with investment importance. Part of the output is intended for general consumption.

The Association of Metal and Electrical Engineering Industry has member companies from the following sectors: the manufacture of metal products in the metalworking stage, the manufacture of machines and devices, the manufacture of electric machines and devices, the manufacture of motor vehicles and of other transportation devices and equipment.
These sectors led to the construction of several plants for processing basic metals to a higher level of finalization, including: special machine tools - robots, different types of machines, tools and spare parts thereof, steel constructions, bridges and parts, non-standard processing equipment used in energy facilities, the metallurgy sector, the chemical industry, the food industry and other related sectors, products used in the construction industry (welded wire mesh, aluminum windows and doors, safety doors, wire products), solid fuel appliances and fireplaces, pumps for liquids and spare parts for such pumps, household appliances, appliances for hotels and restaurants, medical equipment and devices, energy equipment (transformer substations, cables, solar energy collectors, boards, panels, counters and cabinets, contactors and relays, various types of water heaters, galvanized or made of stainless steel, parts for motor and railroad vehicles, equipment for transportation, starter lead batteries, machines and equipment used to filter and purify liquids and gas, electronics and parts used in the automotive industry, buses and attachable components for commercial vehicles.
The privatization process that took place in the industry and the Greenfield investments created a new structure, favorable for attracting foreign investments. In fact, significant foreign investments have been made in the sectors for manufacturing parts used in the automotive industry, as well as for manufacture of buses, railroad brake systems, steel constructions, standard and non-standard equipment, transformers, lead starter batteries, rebar and other types of products.
The metal and electrical engineering industries have had continuous growth, especially in terms of manufacturing and foreign trade. The share of this sector in the structure of the physical volume of industrial production for 2021 is 25.14%, and the largest share has the production of machines and devices of 11.64%.
In 2021, an export of 2,497,233 US dollars was realized, which is a share of 30.5% in the total export realized by the country. The most common products in the export of this complex are electrical machines, appliances and their electrical parts (including non-electrical parts) of household electrical appliances, n.n.) in the amount of USD 1.186.085, as well as industrial machinery and equipment for general use in the amount of USD 982.985.
Over 80% of the manufactured products are sold to EU countries, to former Yugoslav republics, to Southeast Europe, to the USA and to other countries. The remaining 20% is sold on the domestic market.
