As part of ongoing activities to enhance the local supply chain for the motorway projects on Corridors 8 and 10-d, representatives from the Bechtel-ENKA consortium presented their collaboration platform to staff at the regional offices of the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia in Prilep and Bitola. These meetings aim to clarify the guiding principles of Bechtel-ENKA's tendering process, bolstering local companies' participation in the motorway construction project. According to Bechtel-ENKA, this collaboration has so far resulted in approximately 90% of subcontractors and 65% of suppliers being domestic companies.
This initiative, carried out in partnership with the Chamber, is focused on fostering transparent collaboration and familiarizing Chamber member companies with the processes for engaging in the project activities for the construction of the designated corridors, with a total length of 111 kilometers. The tendering process encompasses works, services, and goods.
During the meeting, two key themes were discussed:
The Chamber, its members, and Bechtel-ENKA representatives agreed on the vital importance of integrating local resources and expertise for the successful completion of the project.
Procedures for local companies to participate in tendering and procurement processes were outlined, with discussions on improving communication, enhancing transparency, and overcoming potential barriers within these processes.
Bechtel-ENKA, through these and numerous other meetings with Chamber representatives, reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with local companies while providing support and clarification regarding participation and collaboration processes. Bechtel-ENKA stated that with the completion of more expropriations, additional work fronts and opportunities for domestic companies would arise.
The consortium representatives emphasized their dedication to creating conditions that facilitate the effective inclusion of local companies, thereby stimulating the local economy.
The Chamber welcomed Bechtel-ENKA's commitment, recognizing that increased opportunities for domestic companies will inevitably lead to significant economic benefits.
In the coming period, the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia and Bechtel-ENKA will continue organizing working meetings and presentations at the Chamber’s regional offices in Shtip, Kavadarci, and Kichevo. These activities will further broaden local companies' involvement in this project of national and strategic importance.
