Economic Chamber and the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption Sign Memorandum for Joint Fight Against Corruption

25/12/2024

The Economic Chamber of North Macedonia and the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (DKSK) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at strengthening the fight against corruption and promoting integrity in society. This initiative is part of the project Citizens Against Corruption, supported by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

During the meeting held at the Economic Chamber, activities conducted by the Chamber as part of the project were presented, including results from a 2023 survey assessing companies’ exposure to corrupt demands from the public sector. Discussions also covered business integrity training programs, which are part of the project. These training sessions focus on establishing integrity systems within companies, aligning with international and EU standards, implementing anti-corruption measures, and fostering an ethical business environment.

The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by the President of the Chamber, Branko Azeski, and the President of the DKSK, Tatjana Dimitrovska. It provides for regular meetings between representatives of both institutions, with the potential involvement of member companies of the Chamber and other relevant institutions responsible for combating corruption. The framework for cooperation includes participation in working groups tasked with amending legislation and regulations in the areas of anti-corruption and conflict of interest, as well as contributing to the development and implementation of a new national anti-corruption strategy. The memorandum also outlines collaboration on public events—such as debates, workshops, conferences, and training sessions—aimed at raising public awareness about anti-corruption efforts and strengthening integrity.

The Citizens Against Corruption program is led by the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC) and supported by the American people through USAID. It is implemented through a consortium of diverse participants, including the Economic Chamber, as a representative of the private sector.
