Samardjioski on Business Club: Infrastructure is the Foundation for Development, and Regional Cooperation is Key to Macedonia's Progress

23/01/2025

"Infrastructure is definitely one of the key factors for the development of the country and its regions. Cities thrive where infrastructure is robust. Unfortunately, the region I come from, Pelagonija, lags behind all other regions in Macedonia," stated Sashko Samardjioski, General Manager of Prilepska Pivarnica (Prilep Brewery) AD Prilep, in the latest episode of the podcast Business Club with Branko Azeski.

In the conversation, Samardjioski emphasized that the lack of infrastructure hinders economic activity and deters new investments. According to him, this issue represents a blind spot for the country, leading to business closures and a lack of interest from foreign investors.

"The lack of infrastructure and investments in this region results in companies shutting down and foreign investors losing interest. Without infrastructure, young people leave the area and move to larger cities," he added.

As a critical measure for improving infrastructure, Samardjioski highlighted the need for new transportation corridors, such as the Veles–Prilep–Bitola–Florina–Igoumenitsa route. This would reduce congestion at the Thessaloniki port and provide new access points to the ports in Igoumenitsa and Durres.

During the discussion with Azeski, Samardjioski also stressed the importance of regional cooperation for Macedonia's economic progress, pointing out that a small market like Macedonia cannot remain competitive without support from larger neighboring markets.

"We cannot have some being dominant and others subordinate. Conditions must be created for genuine partnerships that will support the development of our economy. A small market like Macedonia cannot advance without collaboration with larger markets," Samardjioski stated.

Sashko Samardjioski has served as General Manager of Prilepska Pivarnica AD Prilep since 2007. His leadership is marked by a focus on corporate governance, including the systematization of processes and procedures to improve company management.

Prilepska Pivarnica celebrated a century of existence last year. In 1979, it became part of the global Pepsi family. Investments in cutting-edge technology have made Prilepska Pivarnica one of the most modern breweries in the Balkans. The company has received numerous awards, including accolades for the best-selling Pepsi beverages per capita in the country.
