The Economic Chamber of North Macedonia recently held a productive meeting with representatives from the United Nations (UN) to explore opportunities for collaboration between the private sector and international initiatives for sustainable development. The meeting was led by Branko Azeski, President of the Chamber, and Rita Columbia, the UN Resident Coordinator in North Macedonia.
The meeting covered topics related to the current business climate and the challenges faced by Macedonian companies, particularly regarding regulatory predictability, the fight against the informal economy, and the creation of better conditions for economic growth. UN representatives shared successful examples from other countries, highlighting opportunities to support domestic companies through innovative economic policies, green initiatives, and improved labor market conditions.
A special focus was placed on aligning education with labor market needs. President Azeski emphasized the importance of practical training in vocational education and announced plans to expand this initiative to higher education institutions. The UN representatives introduced potential programs aimed at retaining and attracting young talent back to the country, as well as promoting greater gender equality in the business sector.
Both sides expressed their commitment to deepening cooperation, particularly in the areas of corporate responsibility, education, and economic development. In the coming period, the UN will present some of its initiatives to the business community in North Macedonia, while the Economic Chamber will designate a contact person to facilitate more intensive coordination. This meeting marks an important step forward in strengthening the partnership between the private sector and international institutions, fostering sustainable economic progress.
